Collaboratively developed a web app with a team of three during HackDuke 2021

Mental health is a topic often overlooked, despite its critical importance. Inspired by the desire to support mental well-being, my team and I created we-duke-care, a companion app designed to encourage mindfulness through journaling and other practices. Journaling is a proven method to reduce anxiety, regulate emotions, and create awareness, making it a powerful tool for improving mental health. Our app incorporates features like sentiment analysis to detect users' emotional states and provide appropriate support, making it more than just a journal—it's a lifeline.
My primary contribution to the project was focused on deploying the app as a highly scalable solution using Google Cloud's App Engine Platform. I implemented a continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipeline with Cloud Build, enabling automated version updates whenever changes are pushed to the repository. This ensured seamless updates with zero downtime. Additionally, I developed a monitoring dashboard with uptime checks to track the app's performance and ensure its stability in real-time.
The experience not only strengthened my technical expertise but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and communication. Moving forward, we aim to enhance the app's features, including full deployment, automated data collection, and scalability through Google Kubernetes Engine. Through we-duke-care, we hope to inspire mindfulness and positively impact the lives of those who use it.
